Job Placement Assistance from the Massage Therapy School

Many graduates of our Massage Therapy School and a high percentage of massage therapists practicing in the U.S. choose to be self-employed and build their own private practices.

Depending upon state and local laws, some massage therapists may use a specially designed and furnished room in their homes, others rent an office in a commercial building, and others conduct their private practices in a health care facility, spa, salon, athletic club, hotel, or other setting. Just as the number and types of settings for self-employed private practice have been expanding, there is an ongoing increase in the number of job positions that are being offered to massage therapists by employers.

The Massage Therapy School provides students with assistance in locating places where they may conduct a self-employed private practice as well as employers who are seeking massage therapists to fill job openings. Before graduation, students are asked to indicate their interest in receiving job placement assistance. Interested students meet with the Director to receive guidance in taking advantage of the placement assistance provided by the Massage Therapy School.

The Massage Therapy School administers a client referral service that matches practitioners with individual clients who call the school asking to be referred to a massage therapist. Graduates are encouraged to join the referral service. Each prospective client is provided with the names and phone numbers of three referral service members, based on geographical location, the needs and preferences of the client, and a description of the massage therapist’s practice.

The Massage Therapy School regularly surveys graduates and gathers names of employers from completed survey forms. The Massage Therapy School also surveys employers and regularly updates information regarding the kind of job opening that usually occurs at the various locations. Employers occasionally call the Massage Therapy School, seeking qualified practitioners. Information on current job openings is posted on bulletin boards at the Massage Therapy School, and a list of current and past employers is kept in a binder notebook in the library. Graduates of the Institute and other local massage therapists are invited to place notices on the community bulletin board regarding job openings and office rentals.
