Health Works Institute, Massage Therapy School is located in the historic Emerson Center for the Arts and Culture in the heart of downtown Bozeman.

The Emerson occupies a full city block, with trees and lawns around the perimeter of the building. Inside are art studios and galleries, a restaurant, an auditorium, and several rooms that are used for community events, including concerts, meetings, and classes in topics ranging from foreign languages to drama and ballet. Health Works Institute is located in the northwest annex of the building, which is a separate wing that is quiet and a bit removed from the hustle and bustle of the main building. Parking is plentiful in the adjacent lot and surrounding streets. The post office, several banks, city and county offices, a variety of restaurants, and many interesting shops are located within a few blocks.

The massage therapy school occupies the entire first floor of the northwest annex of the Emerson. Included in this space are three classrooms, a reception area where the bookstore and library are located, administrative offices, a kitchen, a student lounge, and lockers located in the hallway.

The massage therapy school provides students with numerous resources to support students’ success in meeting program requirements. Learning resources also provide students information beyond what is presented in textbooks and class materials, so that students may pursue further learning in topics related to massage therapy as well as a wide range of theories and practices in complementary and alternative medicine.

The library, which is conveniently located in the main office, contains approximately 600 books, including several reference publications (medical dictionaries, etc.) and books to support students’ professional development and personal growth. The library contains several professional journals to which the Institute subscribes, including Massage Therapy Journal, Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine, Dr. Andrew Weil’s Wellness Newsletter, Massage Magazine, etc. Students can find handbooks describing how to apply for the National Certification Exam in Therapeutic Massage, as well as study guides to help students prepare for the exam. Students are strongly encouraged to browse in the library and make use of its many resources. The library is open whenever the main office is open, and instructors assist students in returning and checking out library materials when the main office is closed.

MEDIA LIBRARY
Videotapes, audio cassette tapes and DVDs are available for check-out from the library, and they include topics such as trigger point massage, sports massage, advanced deep tissue techniques for specific parts of the body, and cadaver videotapes showing parts of dissected human bodies. Classroom equipment includes a VCR/DVD player and television monitor, audio cassette/CD players, Power Point compatible projector, laptop computer equipped with Power Point software, slide projector, overhead projector, and projector screen. Several textbooks are available on CDs, for use by students with learning disabilities and/or visual impairment.
Massage Therapy School Bookstore
The bookstore is open during office hours, and Instructors assist students with bookstore purchases when the office is closed. The bookstore offers: required and recommended text books; massage oils, lotions, gels, and creams; anatomical charts; flashcards; and other items of interest to students. Students may purchase massage tables and accessories through the bookstore by placing an order at the front desk. Students are given a 5% discount off the retail cost of massage tables and accessories.
